In the Young Gods and Goddesses series, classical portraiture is reimagined through the lived reality of modern youth. Using my own children as subjects, these works equip the ‘divine’ figure with weaponry drawn from gaming, popular culture, and the sobering photojournalism of child soldiers. I’m exploring the contradiction of the vulnerability of the child contrasted with the unconscious power of all our inherited technologies. By referencing both art history and the grit of contemporary conflict, I hope to capture a generation that is at once fragile and formidable
